About The Residency Consult
Why This Exists
The Residency Consult was born from personal experience. My spouse is a physician, and when she was searching for a residency, it was a journey we went on together. We quickly learned that finding the right program meant searching dozens of disconnected places — group chats, Reddit threads, spreadsheets cobbled together from forum posts, word-of-mouth from friends of friends. The information was out there, but it was scattered, incomplete, and exhausting to pull together.
We kept thinking: why isn't there one place where you can actually compare programs side by side? Where you can see real compensation and benefits data, hear from people who've actually trained there, and discover programs you might never have found otherwise?
That's what The Residency Consult is trying to be.
What We Do
We bring together publicly available program data — salaries, benefits, locations, training structure — alongside reviews and insights from the people who know these programs best: current and former residents and fellows. Our goal is to make it easier to find the right program for you. Not just the most prestigious name or the highest-ranked list, but the program where the benefits actually support your life, where the culture matches what you need, and where you'll thrive during some of the most demanding years of your career.
Better Data Starts With You
If you believe in making residency information more transparent and accessible, you can help by contributing a review and/or pointing us towards data we don't have yet. Verified reviews from current and former trainees are the most valuable thing on this platform — they're how we make sure the picture we're painting of each program is accurate and honest. If you'd prefer not to display identifying information, you can still share your experience anonymously. Every contribution, whether verified or anonymous, helps the next generation of applicants make better-informed decisions.
Our Principles
- Transparency— We show you where our data comes from and how it's collected. No black boxes.
- Privacy — Your identity is protected. We never share personal information, and anonymous reviews stay anonymous.
- Independence— We don't accept advertising from residency programs or institutions. The information here is for applicants, not recruiters.
Built for the People Going Through It
The Residency Consult is built for medical students, residents, fellows, and the partners and families who go through the process alongside them. If you've ever spent a late night cross-referencing salary data in a Google Sheet while refreshing a group chat for interview invite updates, this is for you.
